From the moment I first spoke to Mark about his wedding to Shirley I knew I was going to adore photographing their wedding. Mark was so enthusiastic and I could tell instantly how much he was in love with Shirley and how important it was to him that he found a photographer to capture her spirit and personality.
Their wedding was a smaller ‘Micro’ wedding held in the Oakham Registry office also known as Catmose Cottage in Oakham, Rutland. I waited outside eagerly for Mark’s arrival and was greeted with the biggest smile and cheeky laugh, followed by a few amusing minutes whilst he tried to figure out how to remove the lock from his phone so the music wouldn’t stop suddenly for Shirley’s entrance.
Shirley’s arrival though has to top my favorite bridal arrivals ever. Firstly she snuck up on me, coming from the complete opposite direction to everyone else in the wedding party and when I made a comment to her about how gorgeous her dress was, she immediately shouted “IT WAS ONLY £30!” And even better, she had leggings on underneath it to keep warm, a girl truly after my own heart.
Shirley and Mark’s wedding was filled with laughter from the start. We lost a member of the bridal party, who I hasten to add had stayed in Oakham the night before, and we had tears from Mark when he realised his beautiful bride was wearing white and not the red he had anticipated.
I was only with them for an hour and a half but in that time we captured some magic and some beautiful moments and I know they will enjoy looking back on these with their family in years to come.
